The commonly available Cinnamon in our local stores is usually Cassia Cinnamon. This should not be confused with Ceylon Cinnamon as Cassia contains a higher level of coumarin which has potential adverse effects on the liver if consumes regularly.

How to identify between Ceylon & Cassia Cinnamon?

✔ The Ceylon Cinnamon sticks will show more layers than Cassia Cinnamon sticks.
✔ Ceylon Cinnamon has a mildly sweet flavour compared to Cassia Cinnamon which has a sweet pungent flavour.
✔ Due to mass production, you will commonly see Cassia Cinnamon in North American stores. Ceylon Cinnamon is mostly exported to Europe
